Collection: Jacob Cartwright

Jacob Cartwright seeks to create a kind of architectural painting. Forms are nested beside each other with a calibrated tension, expanses of pure color interlock with sections of dense patterning. Despite this precision, idiosyncrasies are embraced, taking as a guide the way pattern languages are adapted to fit a specific site. A particular kind of painterly space is sought, one that alludes to stereometric form while veils of translucent color suggest a more immaterial visual space. Jacob Cartwright holds a degree in painting from the Kansas City Art Institute and lives and works in New York City. Recent exhibitions have included the Spring Break Art Fair, C2C Project Space in San Francisco, as well as features with Gridspace and Transmitter Gallery in Brooklyn.
