Paolo Arao

Paolo Arao’s work combines skewed geometry with bold color to create a queer and dizzying space. Rhythmic bands of stripes shift and twist, and hues sing slightly off key through dynamic chords of color. Though intimate in scale, his paintings are large on playfulness. Paolo received his BFA in painting and printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. He attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 2000 and was awarded a residency at the Fire Island Artist Residency in 2016. His work has been shown in galleries and museums, both nationally and internationally. Paolo lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
